Sometimes I get to do super fun things because of this lil’ ‘ole blog, and I have to say, this dinner was the most fun to date! The fine folks at Del Monte invited me & Bob the Builder to host two of our friends in our home for a chef-created meal, using Del Monte products!
Del Monte scheduled our dinner through KitchenSurfing, a great website that matches your needs with a personal chef. You can search by chef name, by cuisine, or by event. Del Monte paired us with Chef Mariko Amekodommo (aka The Pink Hair Chef) and her Del Monte Signature Tuscan Dinner.
Have you ever had a chef come to cook for you at your home? IT’S AWESOME.
I LOVE to cook, and I LOVE to host parties of any size. Normally, I am in the kitchen most of the time, finishing dinner while our guests arrive. Not this time! Chef Mariko arrived about an hour before our guests, and took care of everything! I didn’t even know what to do with myself. I sort of just hung around her in the kitchen for a while, and then went to put on a little makeup. It was so relaxing! I highly recommend it.
Once our dinner guests, Kristie & Mikael arrived, I was able to enjoy a glass of wine with them, and play a few rounds of Cards Against Humanity. Cards Against Humanity is a new obsession for Bob the Builder and I. Pretty much anyone who comes over has to play a few rounds with us. House rules, you guys.
Our dinner was delicious! Here’s the very chic menu Chef Mariko printed up for us.
Our first course was a Grilled Romaine Salad with Del Monte pears, parmesan cheese, and balsamic glaze. Super yummy, and I especially loved the pears. I never would have thought to put pears on a romaine salad. I will now, though!
Our main course was an incredibly yummy Tuscan Style Shrimp (made with Del Monte tomatoes) and a creamy polenta (made with Del Monte corn). I could eat this entree every day, I loved it so much.
And the most important part of any meal: Dessert! Our dessert was a flour-less chocolate torte with sautéed Del Monte peaches. Seriously yummy.
Can I tell you again how amazing everything tasted? It was all seriously yummy. And aside from being a kick-ass chef, Mariko also cleaned up the entire kitchen and was a super sweetheart to boot.
In planning this dinner, I got reacquainted with DelMonte products. My grandma always bought Del Monte canned goods. They were always in our house growing up! I especially remember the fruit cocktail as a pantry staple. I am happy to report they are now making a “No Sugar Added” Fruit cocktail. I think my Grandma Jean would approve! Also, DelMonte has a very cool “recipe” section on their website. I’m going to make these Breakfast Wraps for myself and Bob the Builder this weekend!
So, THANKS, Del Monte, KitchenSurfing, and Chef Mariko Amekodommo for a wonderful evening! I can’t wait to have an excuse (birthday, anniversary, It’s Friday?) to have a chef come to my home again! Thanks to KitchenSurfing, that now seems like an actual possibility!
